Recipe: French Toast

I'm not a morning person, and this blurry photo is evidence. Still, on special occasions, even the sleepy- zombie morning me, can manage to whip up french toast. It's that simple!

Recipe: French Toast
makes 4 french toast slices
this recipe is easy to scale up and down

Ingredients:
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 pieces of bread (If you're using thick slices of bread you may want to add an extra egg and milk. The bread will soak it up pretty quickly.)
Directions:
  1. Beat the eggs, and stir in the milk, nutmeg and cinnamon.
  2. Dip the bread in the egg mixture, turning once so both sides are coated and soaked through.
  3. Cook the bread on a pan on medium heat until browned on both sides.
  4. Serve with maple syrup and butter, or sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Healthy Substitutions/Alternatives: 
  • Use whole grain bread instead of white.
  • Use egg whites instead of whole eggs.
  • Use skim milk.
  • Instead of syrup and butter, top your french toast with fresh fruit.
